Exergen Temporal Scanner – A Review & Giveaway

We have been pretty lucky in that the girls haven’t really been too sick other than colds and the occasional ear infection. There have been plenty of times that I have wanted to take their temperatures though and just haven’t felt confident that I was getting a true reading. My girls are too young yet to get the “under the tongue” thing. I have an ear thermometer, but again, I just didn’t feel confident that I was getting a good reading.

When I had the opportunity to review the Exergen Temporal Scanner, I was thrilled. I was happy that I would have a more accurate way to take my girls temperature when they weren’t feeling well.

The most accurate way to take a body temperature is the center of the heart, but of course that isn’t practical in most situations. One substitute is to take the temperature in a major artery, which will also accurately reflect true body temperature. And the only artery which is closely positioned enough to the skin surface in order to provide an accurate reading is the temporal artery – which is connected to the heart via the carotid artery, and offers constant blood flow.

The temporal artery is located at the front portion of the forehead, which makes it easy to access. And the Exergen Temporal Scanner thermometer is a truly non-invasive way to measure the temperature directly from the temporal artery, just by swiping it over the skin. In two seconds, an accurate reading is displayed.

From their website:

“As you gently stroke the thermometer across the forehead crossing over the temporal artery, the sensor in its probe performs two process:

First it scan like a video camera, capturing naturally emitted infrared heat from the arterial blood supply at about 1000 “frames” per second, locking in the highest temperature it senses.

Second, at the same time, a patented system measure the ambient temperature of the site where the temperature is being taken. The patented ‘arterial heat balance’ (AHB) software then synthesizes the two separate readings to accurately determine and display body temperature.”

I cannot believe how easy the Exergen Temporal Scanner is to use. Unfortunately (or should I say fortunately), no one has been sick since I received this. I have practiced on myself a few times and have chased around my two girls swiping this across their forehead. I tried it a few times to make sure it gave consistent readings. Well I certainly do not want anyone in my family to get sick, I will make sure to use the Exergen Temporal Scanner to take their temp.

Would you like to try one out yourself? One of my lucky readers will win their very own Exergen Temporal Scanner. Here’s how:

  1. Enter by telling me in the comments what you use to take temps.
  2. The contest will run until Monday, April 6th at 11:59 pm central. The winner will be selected through random.org and contacted by e-mail. Giveaway open to US winners only.
  3. Please leave a valid e-mail address or other way to contact you! If the winner hasn’t responded within 3 days, an alternate winner will be chosen by random.org
  4. If you’d like extra entries, you can:
  • Subscribe to my RSS feed or subscribe via e-mail – leave me a separate comment to let me know.
  • Mention this contest on your blog with a link back to this post, and leave a separate comment with the link to your post so I can find it.
  • Either Twitter about, ‘Stumble’, ‘Digg’ or ‘Kirtsy’ this post – leave me a separate comment with your username at whichever site(s) you chose (one extra entry per method).

Good Luck!!!
